Visiting Locomotives

Visiting locomotives are welcome at our weekend events through the year, and by arrangement on our regular Sunday public running sessions through the summer months, but please get in touch with us in advance if you are planning a visit.

Our track is ground level and includes 3½”, 5″ and 7¼” gauges, and the full run is around 2000 ft in length. Loading from vehicles or trailers is via a ramp pivoting approximately 20″ from the ground. We have raised steaming bays with mains water supply and 12 V DC electricity supply for steam-raising blowers. Coal is available as beans (anthracite) or small nuts (anthracite and welsh steam). Our turntables (steaming bays and station terminus) are 10 ft in length. Our carriages are designed for bar coupling, with a 5/16″ diameter pin. Tea is of course plentiful!

If visiting with a steam locomotive you will need to bring a current boiler certificate, your membership card and club insurance certificate. We also ask that you have an effective ashpan since we use plastic sleepers which have been known to combust!
